Former Assemblyman Bill Essayli, who attended a few Chino Valley School Board meetings advocating for parental notification, has been appointed as the United States Attorney for the Central District of California serving residents in the counties of San Bernardino, Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, Ventura, Santa Barbara, and San Luis Obispo. He was sworn in April 2.

Mr. Essayli, 39, who grew up in Corona, attended Cal Poly Pomona, and received his juris doctorate from Chapman University School of Law, authored AB 1314 which would have required schools to notify parents if their child identified as transgender.

He attended a contentious meeting in Chino in 2023 when the board voted 4-1 to support his bill, with Don Bridge opposed. The bill never came out of committee.

Mr. Essayli, who founded the law firm Essayli & Brown, is a former Riverside County deputy district attorney and former assistant U.S. attorney in the Central District.
