Peru's frozen avocado and blueberry exports experienced sustained growth between 2020 and 2024, with an annual 2% increase in value and 4% increase in volume, thanks to the boost of the European market, according to an analysis by PromPerú. This positive performance contrasts with the 3% overall fall in the global volume of Peruvian frozen fruit exports this year and the 7% drop in the U.S. market.
Frozen strawberry exports have grown steadily at an 8% average annual rate in value and volume. Passion fruit pulp has registered a 26% increase in value and 14% in volume, with a 51% increase in value per kilo, which is evidence of a revaluation of the product. In addition, opportunities are beginning to open up with emerging products such as frozen arils, lucuma pulp, soursop, cherimoya, and frozen aguaymanto.

Mariposa Andina: Lucuma and cherimoya with international projection
"Lucuma and cherimoya, fruits native to Peru, are products with high international demand due to their nostalgic value. Consumption of these products in Chile and the U.S. remains steady," stated Graciela Trujillo, Executive Director of Mariposa Andina.
Cherimoya has aroused growing interest in Asia, especially in Japan and Korea, where its potential in pastries is being evaluated. "We have sent samples, and they are developing flavors. It is a slow process, but with great potential," Trujillo stated.
In addition to these two products, Mariposa Andina has diversified its portfolio with strawberry, mango, blueberry, organic pineapple, and passion fruit pulp in frozen halves. "Our customers highlight the intense flavor of Peruvian passion fruit. We face competition from Asian markets, but we have a sensory advantage," Trujillo stated.
The company is present in the United States, Europe, and Asia, and is committed to customized packaging and a tailor-made operation that includes everything from industrial cylinders to 100-gram presentations. Despite logistical and climatic challenges, they are projecting 30% growth in exports this year.

Selva Industrial: Organic orange and pineapple juice
From the Peruvian jungle, Selva Industrial operates the only IQF processing plant specialized in tropical fruits. Renzo Gómez, the company's representative, highlighted their commitment to products such as concentrated orange juice, passion fruit, organic MD2 pineapple, and camu camu, which is still restricted by its status as a novel food in Europe.
"The organic business is more stable and less volatile. That is why we are growing in this line, especially with MD2 pineapple, which we offer in juice, puree, and IQF formats," he stated. The company works with more than 12 fruits, exporting 65% of its production to Europe and the rest to America.
Gómez highlighted their diversification strategy towards Asia and Oceania and the consolidation of local producer networks. He also said they faced high logistical and climate costs as structural barriers. "We differentiate ourselves by our traceability and our proximity to small farmers in the jungle. That is our strength," he said.
