Ben Johnson Talbott Jr. to be Included in Upcoming Volume of Who's Who in the World



    LOUISVILLE, KY, June 20, 2018 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Ben Johnson Talbott Jr. will be included in an upcoming edition of Marquis Who's Who in the World. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

With more than 50 years of experience in the field of law, Mr. Talbott has served as the senior partner in Bardenwerper, Talbott & Roberts, PLLC since 2004. Prior to that he was a managing partner at Talbott & Talbott, PLLC from 2000 to 2004, and before that he was a partner at Westfall, Talbott & Woods, PLLC from 1980 to 2000, Talbott began his practice of law in 1965 as an associate of Kentuckys then largest firm of Middleton, Seelbach, Wolford, Willis & Cochran (later renamed Middleton, Reutlinger & Baird), and he became a partner in that law firm in 1968 and continued with the firm until 1980.

Before embarking on a career in the active practice of law, Talbott pursued his college education Xavier University where he earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree, magna cum laude, in two and a half years. Following his graduation from Xavier in 1961, Talbott entered Harvard Law School from which he graduated in 1964. Upon graduation, Talbott began his legal career as a law clerk for the Hon. Henry L. Brooks, the Chief Judge of the United States District Court for the Western District of Kentucky. During that time he became licensed to practice law in the state of Kentucky, and he was later admitted to practice before the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit in 1967.

During the course o his long legal career, Talbott has represented numerous corporations, governmental entities, partnerships, and individuals. Among others, these clients included the Louisville Gas & Electric Company, the Business Development Corporation of Kentucky, Readers Digest, Inc. Fedders Corporation, Stitzel-Weller Distillery, the City of Louisville, the Jefferson County Fiscal Court, the University of Louisville, the Louisville and Jefferson County Board of Health, the Louisville General Hospital, the University of Louisville Hospital, Republic Bank, First National Bank, Commonwealth Bank and Trust Company, and numerous out of state banks including Manhattan Savings Bank, the Lincoln Bank & Trust Co., The Union Square Savings Bank, the Onondaga Savings Bank, the First State Bank of Wayne County, and the Savings Bank of Utica, NY. Talbott's legal practice has principally been in the areas of civil litigation, including malpractice defense, and contracts, corporate law, and real estate.

He is a member of the American Bar Association, the Kentucky Bar Association, and the Louisville Bar Association (former Board member). He is also a member of the American Institute of Legal Counsel, which commended him as one of the "ten best" attorneys in Kentucky. Talbott has previously been a member of the American Judicature Society, the Association of the Trial Lawyers of America, the Defense Research Institute, the Supreme Court Historical Society, the Newcomen Society, the Association of American Insurance Attorneys, and the National Association of College and University Attorneys. He has consistently been named as one of the best lawyers in America in Who's Who in American Law, America's Registry of Outstanding Professionals, and Martindale-Hubbell's Bar Register of Preeminent Lawyers, as well as various other publications and professional organizations.

Talbott has served on a number of corporate boards, including Stitzel-Weller Distillery, Alumina Ceramics, and Strategia Corporation. In 1970, along with Randolph Reynolds, Talbott founded Alumina Ceramics, Inc. and built a factory in Benton, Arkansas to make high tech seal rings for drilling oil. Because the alumina ceramic product which their company made was the hardest substance in the world except for diamonds, it later was used for making other specialized products also. In 1979, Talbott and Reynolds sold the company to Coors Technology, Inc.

In addition, Talbott has been active in civic affairs and has served as a board member and officer of many civic organizations. He was a board member for eight years and Vice-Chairman of the University of Louisville Board of Trustees, having been appointed to the Board first by Governor Louie Nunn and later by Governor Wendell Ford. Talbott was subsequently offered another term on the Board by Governor Julian Carroll, but declined it because of a possible future conflict of interest. Talbott was also a member and Chairman of the University's Finance Committee and he served on several other committees of the University as well. He was also elected to a term as Treasurer of the University, as a consequence of which his signature appears on millions of dollars of University bonds which he was required to sign by machine in New York, NY.

Talbott has further served the University and local government as an advisor for the University of Louisville Foundation, the University of Louisville Medical School Fund, the Transportation Authority of River City (TARC) Advisory Committee, the Jefferson County Capital Construction Finance Committee, and the Institute of Industrial Development. Talbott has also served as a board member of the Alcoholism Council of Louisville, Inc. (past Chairman), and the Louisville Lung Association (past Treasurer), and as a committee member and fundraiser for the Louisville Fund for the Arts, the March of Dimes, and the salvation Army Building Fund. Talbott additionally served on the board of the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society (University of Louisville) of which he is a member, and for which he also served as the Treasurer for over twenty-six years, and he was formally on the Board of the Harvard Law School Alumni Association of Kentucky, which he served as Secretary in 1965 and as President from 1989 to 2005.

In support of the arts he was a board member and officer of the Louisville Theatrical Association (past President) for over fifteen years, the Louisville Orchestra (past President) for twelve years, Macauley Theatre, Inc. (past Secretary), the Kentucky Center for the Arts for twenty-six years, and the Advisory Board of WKPC Channel 15 (past President). In addition, he has served as a board member of the Historic Homes Foundation (past Vice-President), Locust Grove (historic home of George Rogers Clark), and Whitehall (past Chairman). Over the years Talbott has been honored with awards and commendations from many of the boards on which he has served, and most particularly by the University of Louisville, the Louisville Orchestra, and the Kentucky Center for the Arts.

In recognition of his achievements, the Louisville Jaycees elected Talbott as Outstanding Young Man in 1976. In 1989 Talbott was awarded a Certificate Of Recognition And Appreciation by the Kentucky Bar Association for his work on behalf of the Bar. And in 2014, he was awarded another Certificate by the Kentucky Bar Association in recognizing his "outstanding professional achievement." Talbott also has been named to Who's Who in America, and Who's Who in the World.

In 1994, Talbott was appointed under President Clinton as an original member of the Board of the Defense Enterprise Fund. The DEF, which was the brainchild of Secretary of Defense William Perry, was created and funded by Congress pursuant to the U.S. Defense Security Act for the purpose of assisting in the elimination and/or conversion of those manufacturing facilities located in the former Soviet Union which were used by the Soviet Union for the building of nuclear, biological and chemical weapons of mass destruction. The areas covered included Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, and Belarus. Talbott diligently served on the DEF Board, attending every meeting, whether in Washington, D.C., Moscow or elsewhere, for over twelve years until the expiration of the DEF's mission term in 2006.

Talbott presently serves as Governor on the Board of the Society of Mayflower Descendents of Kentucky (past Deputy Governor, past Treasurer, and past Acting Assistant Governor General), and was previously the Assistant Treasurer and Finance Committee member of the nationwide General Society of Mayflower Descendents from 2010 to 2013. Talbott also presently serves on the Board of the Sons of Colonial Wars of Kentucky.

Talbott has long had an interest in the history of English law and how it was brought to America by the early Pilgrims. Talbott is a direct descendent to at least ten of the Mayflower's 102 passengers, and at least five of the forty-one male passengers who signed the Mayflower Compact, namely John Alden, William Mullins, James Chilton, John Tilley, and John Howland. As a consequence, he is related to at least six United States Presidents, including John Adams, John Quincy Adams, Calvin Coolidge, Franklin Roosevelt, George H.W. Bush, and George W. Bush. Like Talbott, all of them were direct descendents from at least one or more of Talbott's aforesaid Mayflower ancestors.

With his wife Sandy, Talbott attends church at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Louisville and St. Vincent Ferrer Catholic Church in Delray Beach, Florida. They also belong to the Louisville Boat Club (where Talbott has served as both a board member and Secretary), the Louisville Country Club, the Gulf Steam Bath and Tennis Club (Florida), and the Country Club of Florida. Talbott was previously a member of the Big Sand Lake Club (Wisconsin), the Pendennis Club, and the University of Louisville Club. Ben Talbott is also a member of the Florida Society of Mayflower Descendents, the Florida Society of Colonial Wars, the Sons of the American Revolution, the Filson Historical Society, and the Alden Kindred of America, Inc.
